It is over regular meetings at the Gymkhana that the idea of the Chembur Ghatkopar Olympics was born and with a lot of planning and passion they conceptualized the entire event. In spite of being busy professionals, they approached the event with a fanatic zeal & the fact that it would be a Herculean task organizing the event or lack of funds never fazed them. Support from friends and sporting champions like Mr. Kamlesh Mehta (India Player- Table Tennis & Shri. Pradeep Gandhe - India Thomas Cup Captain, Badminton) served as a catalyst to make their mission a reality and the first Chembur Ghatkopar Olympics was held in the year 2005.
The idea of organizing Chembur Ghatkopar Olympics was well-received by various gymkhanas, which includes The Chembur Gymkhana, Ghatkopar Jolly Gymkhana, Sindhi Society Gymkhana, The Acres Club, Cheddanagar Gymkhana & YMCA. All the participating gymkhanas agreed to provide full support along with their infrastructure and facilities for the event. The Opening ceremony would be hosted by the Jolly Ghatkopar Gymkhana & the Host for the closing ceremony will be The Chembur Gymkhana. All the events will be conducted with the best of facilities under the supervision of experienced officials from the various associations. The coaches of the various disciplines, conducting coaching camps in the various Gymkhanas have assured complete support for the event in terms of guidance and participation.
The Chembur Ghatkopar Olympics will evolve every year as an event & we intend to increase the area of coverage by bringing in other clubs from surrounding area like Mulund, Thane & New Mumbai. It is also our intention to eventually to allow participants from all over Mumbai to participate in these Olympics, thus providing the Children from the suburbs exposure to higher competition & the chance to excel. The objective is to provide all the children a platform to compete and evaluate the skills learned in the coaching camps and discover their potential.
We would like to thank all the Gymkhanas without whose support it would not have been possible to conduct the Olympics, Parents, Participants and their Coaches who are part of the success of this event. A special mention along with our sincere appreciation to all those friends, family & many others for having reposed such faith in us & helping us in more ways than with money.
We assure each one of you that Future Sports Foundation will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the participants are provided with proper facilities to compete & showcase their skills in the years to come.
